WARDOGS failed to authenticate

Short answer

If WARDOGS says Access Denied or failed to authenticate during the beta weekend, do not treat it as proof that your PC is broken. Today the official Steam community feed still frames access around invite waves, pre-order priority, and server scaling, while Steam and Reddit discussions show players hitting authentication and queue problems at the same time.

The practical order is: confirm the same Steam account has WARDOGS Playtest access, check whether the beta window is actually live in your region, watch the queue or server status, and only then try local Steam-client checks.

Decide what kind of failure you have

A missing Playtest client, an authentication error after a long queue, and a crash before the menu are different problems. Keeping them separate prevents you from wasting the beta window on unrelated fixes.

Use official or platform-visible state first. WARDOGS Playtest in your Steam Library is the account-access clue; current Steam and Reddit reports are the server-pressure clue; a Windows error before the launcher reaches the game is the local-client clue.
